SALT - Save A Life Today
Save A Life Today is a project of Voice of Gospel ministry to rescue and support the HIV/Aids Children and widows. Since 2012 Voice of Gospel is rescuing and supporting HIV Children and widows financially and emotionally and spiritually. Voice of Gospel supports such victims and supply high protein food packets for their daily need. Voice of Gospel also supports the widows with financial resources for self employments. Support a child with $15 a month and help a widow with $150 for income generating business. The HIV patients in India are always shunned from the community and die in starvation and shame, please help us to save one more life with your sacrificial donations.
One of the ministries that Voice of Gospel is engaged in, is the ministry to the AIDS and HIV affected people. God enabled us to open the 7th SALT center in Alappuzha District of Kerala. It is in 2012 we started to minister to the HIV affected community in Trichur. We took 30 children into our SALT [Save A Life Today] project to feed them with high protein food. When the doctors saw the difference in these children they were amazed and we were introduced into other districts. Today we feed about 175 children in 7 districts of Kerala. On the 8th June we were able to open our 7th SALT center in Alapuzha District.
The second step of faith we have taken in this ministry is, to take care of the widows affected with HIV in Trichur. The NGO we partner with in Trichur brought this great need to our attention. Once these widows are diagnosed with HIV they are thrown out of their families and community. There is no way that they can find some food or work. They have to live in the mercy of the public or go for sex work. This will cause more harm to the society. As they are aware of the seriousness of this disease, most of them are not willing to do sex work, but starve to death. The Government will give them free medicine but no food. We have taken this challenge to bless them with high protein food kits on a monthly basis. We have chosen 50 widows into this program from the month of June onwards. Each food kit costs $15.
The third step of faith we have taken to reach and empower the HIV affected people is, Micro financing to start income generating projects. So far God has helped us to bless 40 HIV affected people with Micro finances to start different types of small-scale business to help their families and be involved in some type of income generating project. The success rate is 100%.
The fourth action we have taken to empower and encourage these affected people is, to sow the seed of Gospel through fellowship and worship. These people are invited for a time of fellowship and worship on a regular basis and are motivated and challenged to face the difficulties and challenges of life with the grace and power of Jesus Christ. Many who were thinking of committing suicide are brought back to life and the main stream of the society through the saving power of the gospel. Jesus has healed their wounds and bitterness and had given hope, joy and life. It is a great joy to see these people to come to the altar with tears for healing and hope. The last fellowship we had on the 9th June was so powerful. 179 HIV affected people attended the service where Kathy shared her testimony on how she was affected with HIV and how the Lord Jesus has healed her and helped for the last 20 plus years to minister to such people in 20 plus countries. After the meeting she hugged almost every one affected with HIV and the church blessed them with lunch. When they saw the church treating them as precious human beings, many of their eyes were filled with tears. Many said it is the first time that someone serves us and takes care of us with such a dignity.
The Statistics shows that India has an estimated 220,000 children infected by HIV/AIDS. Every year 55,000 to 60,000 children are born to mothers who are HIV positive. India has the largest number of AIDS orphans and it is expected to double in numbers in the next five years. There are 55, 167 HIV/AIDS patients in Kerala. Palakkad region had the maximum number of HIV victims. Why should we focus on children? Children are the silent victims of HIV epidemic. In Kerala the cases of HIV orphan children is mounting steadily.
